If Rangers want Derek McInnes to be their manager, they need to make an approach sooner rather than later so he can decide whether to go to Ibrox or not.
Dragging it out will only frustrate the Aberdeen manager and annoy the Red Army.
The speculation and questions over McInnes’ future will continue until Rangers make a move.
I want McInnes to remain at Pittodrie as he has done a fantastic job as manager of Aberdeen.
If I was in McInnes’ position I would be thinking, let’s get on with it and come and say you want me to be manager so I can ask the questions and make the decision.
Or go and get another manager.
If there are a set of boxes that needed to be ticked for the Rangers job, there is a certain manager in McInnes who does that, which is why he has been made favourite.
Rangers either make the decision to go for him or rule him out.
That is where McInnes, the Pittodrie board and Dons fans will be now.
McInnes is an astute manager and if the approach does come there will be questions he will need answered before he would even consider going – especially regarding the financial situation at Ibrox.
Rangers have been in a dire financial situation for the last four or five years.
They have been relying on loans and still have not got their business model sorted out. That would be a concern for any manager taking over.
If they can get that business model right it would be enticing for any manager as Rangers are a large club with gates of 45,000.
Ideally McInnes will stay to continue his fantastic work at Aberdeen, but it needs resolved either way quickly.
Whether the 2-2 draw at Hamilton is his last game as Dons boss remains to be seen but it was an entertaining clash, with a share of the points the fair result
Aberdeen played well in the second half and gained control of the game.
When they went 2-1 up I thought they would go on to win as they are normally good at managing games.
However, Hamilton never let up to ensure the Dons go into the international break frustrated.
They could have bigger concerns in the next week or so.
