1970 The storm brought buses to a halt in Aberdeen, where many streets remained unsanded owing to the dust driver's strike. Confused passengers disembark while drivers and conductors gather at the transport inspectors' kiosk for instructions.

This week’s Aberdonian features some of the snowy scenes captured by our photographers over the decades.

1987: Street orderlies George Douglas (left) and Ronald Walker clear the snow from the Greenfern Road, Mastrick, pavements this morning.
1985: Two faces of winter in the North-east yesterday captured by photographer Graham Robertson. For youngster Richard Merchant (above), the snow could only be put to good use and what a fine fellow of a snowman he has built. Richard (10), 47 Station Road, Banchory, shakes on it with his snowman.
1987: Not quite so hard labour but still a chore Mr Ronald Wilson, the Toll House, Banchory, is almost up to his knees in the snow as he fetches logs from his woodshed to keep his home fires burning. Perhaps he could borrow some snow shoes from friendly Eskimos
1978: Another wintry scene this time at Bogfon, Maryculter, as farmer Mr William Blackhall lays out feeding for his sheep.

1976: Eleven-year-old Claire Darling, 70 Gladstone Place, Aberdeen, pulling her sister Caroline (12) along Forest Avenue on their sledge.
1969. This tanker, which attempted to negotiate the Howe of Bucksburn road into Northfield, had to be dug out by County Council workmen.
1977: Stockethill children have fun in the snow. They are Karen Craig (7), Deborah Desbois (7), Shirley Craig (2), Michael Craig, and Stacy Stephen (7), all of Stockethill Crescent, Aberdeen.
1961: The majestic spire of the West Church of St Nicholas, framed in this wintry setting, from which the midnight chimes have rung out in the past will, this year, be silent… they are frozen! But the New Year will still be greeted by the big bell which will be rung for two minutes at midnight, and then the carillon will play.
1985: The fastest way to the sales in Aberdeen this morning way by sledge… Mrs Sue Lessels, of Whitehall Terrace, and her children, Tom (3) and Ellie (6) have the snail’s pace traffic beaten as they make their way down Union Street.
1982: The first fall of snow of the winter certainly pleased four-year-old Michael Millar, of 60 Kinmundy Drive, Westhill, Aberdeen, who enjoyed playing with his sledge today.
1988: Drivers who slithered to a halt going up King's Gate, Aberdeen, in the snow this morning help to push each other’s car out of trouble.
1993: Putting the finishing touches to their 10ft-tall snowman last night were these members of the Stoneywood Venture Scouts. At the top of the ladder is Angela Hutcheon, while front left is Bob Wilson and on the right is Susan Cantlay. It took them one hour to create the snowman at their Waterton Road headquarters.
