This week’s Aberdonian takes a look at sheep through the years.

We’ve featured escaped sheep, a runaway lamb and prize-winning ewes in this gallery, which includes pictures from as far back as 1949.

1974: The Border Leicester ram which took the champion award at Banchory
1983: Mary's not-so-little lamb hits the pall trail in the sunshine on the South Deeside Road, Maryculter, yesterday. Luring her fleecy friend along to pastures new – helped by a bucket banquet – is Mrs Mary Blackhall, Milton of Durris, Durris. And, like sheep everywhere, the rest of the flock are following along behind them
1984: Police in Aberdeen took seven sheep into custody today after they made an escape bid from a lorry in the city centre. The seven sheep were being taken to Perth by Peter G. Barclay of Portsoy, when the driver of the lorry was forced to stop suddenly in Market Street. The wood above the lorry cab gave way and seven of the sheep slid 12ft on to the road in Market Street. But instead of making a clean break for it, they headed straight into the harbour board compound where colleagues of the driver helped round them up. Mr Bob Durno, of 35 North Street, Aberchirder, said he and his friend, Eddie Christie, of 70 Forglen Crescent, Turriff, were having dinner in a café opposite the junction with Market Street and Albert Quay. They saw the accident and raced out to help.
1969: Now then, mind your crossing drill. The collie helps to steer Shetland lambs through Lerwick traffic hazards on their way to the harbour for shipment to Aberdeen.
1972: Ba-ba a beautiful flock of black sheep belonging to Lady Muriel Barclay-Harvey of Dinnet grazing in a field by the River Dee near Ballater.
1980: A real handful of mischief for Mrs Jane Cameron, Candy Farm, Drumlithie, as she handles three lambs from her flock of 30 Jacob sheep. Mrs Cameron and her husband, William, are selling out at Candy Farm and our photographer snapped this show yesterday as the sun came out to give perfect sale conditions. The sale had been postponed from Saturday because of heavy snowfall in the area.
1966: Sandy Lee, jun., Fordafourie, Fraserburgh, holding the Border Leicester champion ram lamb at the Aberdeen Show, held at the Central Mart yesterday.
1989: Monymusk shepherd Ian Wilkie, with dog Gail, at work at Blairdaff moving Greyface gimmers on to new pastures in the early spring sunshine. The flock are due to lamb from April 1 onwards.
1983: Members of the North-east of Scotland Suffolk Sheep Club this week paid a visit to Mr Sandy CampbellÂ’s Kirkton flock at Kinellar, near Aberdeen. They are pictured inspecting the ram lambs destined for the Edinburgh sale in July.

1979: An armful of mischief The missing lamb manages to get into this picture the head can just be seen peeping over the white lamb. Holding the three newcomers is Mr Anderson.
