In this week’s Aberdonian, we’ve taken a look through our archives at images of the world-renowned Rowett Institute.

 

1967: Opening of the Charles Alexander Wing of the Reid Library at the Rowett Research Institute yesterday. Mr William Ross the Secretary of the State for Scotland and Mr Charles Alexander examine the library with mobile shelves to facilitate storage.
1987: The search for alternative forms of fibre production knows no bounds - as scientists at the Rowett Research Institute, Aberdeen, are trying to prove. Experiements are beginning to assess the fibre of cameloids in the UK, centering on the South American llama. The first research project of this type in the UK is being headed by Dr Clare Adam, who is in charge of the red deer section at the Rowett, in conjunction with scientists from the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute in Aberdeen.

1968: Mr Edwin Goodall with Amina, one of the Rowett Institute's red deer hinds. Comparisons are being made of digestion and metabolism in red deer and sheep.
1970: Miss S. Moon cutting sections of tissue for microscopic examination in the experimental pathology department at the Rowett Institute.
1970: After officially opening the new ring at the Rowett The Duke of Edinburgh sets off on a tour of the building accompanied by Principal E. M. Wright and Dr K. L. Blaxter.
1992: Resplendent in their morris dancing costumes are these senior staff members of Aberdeen's Rowett Research Institute, who performed at the opening of the Rowett's HANSA unit. They are (from left): rear - Philip James, Bob Orskov, Ron Self, Ian Bremner; front - Jim Lomax and Peter Hotten. The unit has been established as the World Health Organisation's official centre for the analysis of data and the provision of nutritional advice for all areas of the wartorn former Yugoslavia.
