Flashback: Step back in time with images from our archive

Four Aberdeen children had a novel idea which raised £20 for the Aberdeen fund to get an elephant for the zoo in 1969. The children from Auchinyell Road had the idea when their jumble sale only raised £2. So they decided to dress up and raise more money from their neighbours. The children are Morag, Fiona and Graham Fyfe and Fiona Ross.

1969: Linking with the centre of Aberdeen is the separate shopping area of Rosemount, which contrives to keep abreast of the times and yet maintain a character all its own. This is the view from the South Mount Street.
1969: In the paint shop at King Street Mr T. Ferguson and Mr A. Strachan, the rolling stock engineer, examine a destination screen used on the Corporation buses. The screens are about 60ft. long and have space for about 120 place names.
1986: 11 sculptures from all over the world had been entered in the Mobil Young Sculpture Exhibition as part of the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and were on display at Footdee. this work was entitled Windows to the Sea.
1972: Aberdeen man David Dinardo shows off some of the gnomes he has made to his nephew, Paul Dinardo, 5. David sold the gnomes he made to help raise cash for charity.
1986: Watt and Grant's well-known bookshop closes its doors for the final ever time on Union Street in 1986.
1986: Radars bar and restaurant waitress Rose Maclean braves the elements on the roof terrace

1984: Lancelot has a hole in his tights and of course all the Knights of the Round Table gather round to give a helping hand. The Kemnay Drama Group rehearses for their Christmas panto "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table". Stella Youngson is Lancelot and busy with the needle is Ishbel Imrie as Ethelred.
1978: Aberdonians had the chance of a special rail trip to Dufftown on Saturday - the Scottish Railway Preservation Society ran a train with carriages of old company vintage. One carriage, shown in the picture, is an 1898 King Edward VII Royal saloon. Starting at Falkirk, the train went to Aberdeen and then on the goods line to Speyside. Shown (from left) are: Miss Lynne Whitefield, Dunfermline, a member of SRPS; Mr Archie Wilson, Aberdeen station assistant; Mr John Birnie, and Mr Eric Viles, both from Edinburgh and members of the SRPS, and Mr Charles Pacitti, station chargeman at Aberdeen.
