Hundreds of North-east folk flocked to the Timmer Market in Aberdeen's Castlegate in August 1934. The Timmer Market had been held annually in Aberdeen for one day in August since before 1773. Until 1934 it was set up in the Castlegate, but from 1935 was held on the market stance off Justice Street.

It had been some time since this fleet of steam drifters tied up in Cullen Harbour chased the shoals of herring in the North Sea. This 1930s view is taken looking westwards towards Cullen's Seatown with its gable-ends thrusting defiance to northerly gales and the sea.

Looking towards the Trinity Centre entrance on Aberdeen's Union Bridge in 1992. Troubled jewellery giant Ratners had lost its sparkle in the city and its store, right, was boarded up.
The Lake of Menteith in Perthshire was the venue for the Royal Caledonian Curling Club's Grand Match, North v South, in February 1979. Hundreds of curlers attended the event, the first since 1963 when the ice was last solid enough to take the weight of the curlers and stones.
The magnificent frontage of Aberdeen's Tivoli Theatre on Guild Street as it was in this picture believed to be from the early 1930s. The theatre is currently being restored to its former glory.
The shop of Aberdeen bakers Mitchell & Muil in Schoolhill as it was in March 1972. As can be seen from the notice in the window the shop was to close on March 25.

The Esslemont & McIntosh department store on the corner of Union Street and Broad Street was a popular place for shoppers hunting for men's and women's fashions and furnishings. Part of the building now houses Jamie's Italian restaurant.
Things have changed in Aberdeen's Holburn Street since this picture was taken in 1979, and not just the shops and businesses along the busy route. Note the line of cars parked in what is now the bus lane.
Hardware shop Hendersons of Schoolhill, which was to shut in April 1987 to make way for redevelopment. The property was to be demolished as part of the Central Area Development Programme and the creation of the Bon Accord Centre.

Pedal-cars challenge for the best racing line at a turn-around at the end of the course during Aberdeen's fifth Pedal-Car Marathon on the city's Esplanade. For 24 hours, non-stop, more than 100 pedallers endured cramps and muscle fatigue to raise a five-figure sum for charity in the event organised by Black Gold Charities, set up by employees of Mobil North Sea.

Although this 1959 photograph of the junction of Raeden Park Road, Foresterhill Road and Westburn Road, Aberdeen, shows there were no real traffic problems the junction was branded an accident blackspot.
