This week we trotted through the archives at memories of ponies in the north and north-east.
With pictures spanning the last 50 years in our gallery below it’s clear that there is no greater bond between us and our loyal steeds.
We get a glimpse at their cheeky side as one raided the kitchen for snacks and another sticks their head into a group photo.
And at the Highland Pony Show we see what it takes to be a champion foal.

1979 – Highland Ponies judge George Baird presents the Champion Highland Pony in show to Lorna with Stanley Leslie looking on.
1990 – Neil, Susan and Anne Groat with John Reid dressed in Australian costumes at the Highland Pony Show.
1988 – Gordon Barbour and his wife Fiona give rescued pony Lucky a welcome to their farm.
1981 – Pitmedden Gardens handyman Leslie Duguid with some of the rare breed of Highland ponies from the island of Rum.
1989 – Schivas George is a new addition to the Burnett family of Ythanbank.
1986 – Tino sneaks into the kitchen for a quick snack from Rhodella as brother William tackles the washing up.
1993 – Highland pony breeder Jean McBain has three generations of Highland ponies on Wynford farm, Kingswells.
