Moray MSP Richard Lochhead lashed out at the closure plans during a meeting of the Scottish Parliament yesterday.
The SNP politician urged his Holyrood colleagues to “condemn” proposals to axe the Aberlour branch, and press for the Clydesdale Bank to reconsider the move.
He said the demise of the High Street venue would leave the village without any bank, and means residents will have to make a 20-mile round trip to Keith to reach the nearest branch.
Mr Lochhead tabled a motion asking that the parliament “expresses deep concern” about the decision.
He added: “The closure of the Aberlour branch will be a massive blow to the employees, customers and the wider community.
“I suggest the parliament calls on the Clydesdale Bank to reconsider closures where they are the last bank in a community.”
The MSP also highlighted recent studies which revealed that Moray has suffered the highest rate of bank branch closures in Scotland over the past two years.
