Theresa May to call for “united country” at Tory manifesto launch

Theresa May will call for the country to come together as she launches her party’s manifesto later today.

The Prime Minister will say Britain must become a “united country” ahead of the most “challenging” period in her lifetime, as the nation prepares to break away from the European Union.

Leader’s debate: Everything you need to know about tonight’s General Election face off

Party leaders will face off tonight in the first of a series of General Election debates.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will face off against Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron and Ukip’s Paul Nuttall in what is sure to be a fiery exchange.

Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood and Green co-leader Caroline Lucas will also take part in the two-hour show.

Kezia Dugdale: Labour election wipe-out would not make me quit

Kezia Dugdale has vowed to carry on as Scottish Labour leader even if her party suffers a complete wipe-out at next month’s General Election.

Ms Dugdale said she indented to stay on “no matter what the outcome” of the vote on June 8 – even if the party lose their one remaining MP in Scotland.

Willie Rennie forced to defend Lib Dems offering second vote on Brexit but not Scots independence

Willie Rennie has rejected the notion that his party are ‘inconsistent’ after supporting a second referendum on Brexit but not Scottish independence.

The Liberal Democrat manifesto, launched by UK leader Tim Farron yesterday, says people should be offered a vote on the final deal to take the UK out of the European Union.

But the party remains strongly opposed to any future plebiscite on Scottish independence, leading some to question how Mr Rennie can support both positions.

Doctor seeking legal advice after her name and picture used in SNP campaign leaflet without consent

A doctor is still waiting for a personal apology after her name and photo were used in an SNP campaign leaflet without her permission.

Alison Brooks, a GP in Thurso who is Caithness Maternity and Gynaecology Group chairwoman, was left seething after SNP candidate Paul Monaghan suggested she supported his party’s record.

Former Welsh first minister Rhodri Morgan has died aged 77.

The Labour politician was a “towering figure”, former Welsh secretary Lord Hain said, describing him as “both the father of devolution and the father of the nation”.

PM rules out indyref2 vote until after Brexit as she launches manifesto to woo Scots voters

Theresa May has pledged to reject a second independence referendum until after the UK has left the European Union.

The Conservative leader said she would not accept any request for a new vote until after Brexit negotiations had been completed and only if there is “public consent”.
