A French Aberdeen councillor has spoken of his fears for fellow EU citizens living in the UK as Brexit approaches.
Christian Allard moved to Scotland more than 30 years ago and now serves as an SNP councillor for the Torry and Ferryhill ward.
Mr Allard, a former north-east regional MSP, said he had recently received a letter from Prime Minister Teresa May.
He said: “I’m one of the three million EU citizens without British citizenship living here. The UK decision to leave the EU is affecting our daily lives.
“Many of my friends who voted leave told me that I had nothing to fear, I always knew that soon I could be denied the freedom I cherish the most, the freedom of movement.
“The UK department of Exiting the European Union wants us to regularise our status to remain in this country. I checked the definition of the word.
“Regularise means to establish a temporary or provisional arrangement on an official basis.
“I don’t live in my own home on a temporary basis or on a provisional arrangement, I live in my own home by right of being an EU citizen.
“As a new Scot living here for more than 30 years, I consider this advice from the UK department of Exiting the European Union a personal insult.”
