Support for Scottish Labour has collapsed over the last two years, according to a new poll showing the SNP is increasing in popularity.
The YouGov poll found the SNP now stands at 42%, an increase of five percentage points since the 2017 General Election.
In contrast, backing for the Conservatives has fallen by seven points to 22% while Scottish Labour support has plummeted.
Scottish Labour is now in fourth place behind the Lib Dems after support fell from 27% to 12%. The Lib Dems are on 13%.
Last night Stephen Gethins, the SNP candidate defending North-East Fife, said the poll showed his party had “hit the ground running” and described it as “dismal reading” for the Tories and Labour.
The poll of more than 1,000 Scottish adults was part of a UK-wide survey.
Across the UK, the poll suggested the Tories are in the lead in every English region outside of London, apart from the North East.
The Brexit Party polled the highest in the North-East of England (19%). Labour was down 20%+ in its northern heartlands since the 2017 election.
