SNP MSP Gail Ross has said she is seeking an urgent meeting with FlyBe bosses to protect jobs and rural airlinks following reports of a potential collapse.
Operating in an alliance with Eastern Airways, FlyBe offers residents in the far north of mainland Scotland an invaluable link between Wick -John O’Groats Airport and Aberdeen.
The MSP for Caithness, Ross and Sutherland has also written to the Scottish Government’s Business Minister Jamie Hepburn and Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) to identify the next steps in maintaining the vital airlinks and offering security for local staff.
Ms Ross said: “News of a potential collapse at FlyBe is of course deeply concerning – however I’m optimistic that a solution can be found that protects our vital airlinks and protects local jobs.
“I have invited the Scottish Government’s minister for business and cabinet secretary for transport to an urgent meeting with management at FlyBe, Eastern Airways, HIAL AND trade union officials to identify the next steps in our joint effort to secure a long term future for the airlink.”
