Deputy First Minister John Swinney will today set out how SNP MPs will support the creation of more and better paid jobs across the UK.
The finance secretary is launching the party’s jobs manifesto in Edinburgh which will highlight proposals to end austerity and increase investment that will support job creation.
Mr Swinney will also outline how SNP MPs will stand up for the principles behind fair work – including a minimum wage of £8.70 by 2020.
“Hard working people have been let down for far too long by Westminster and with both Labour and the Tories signed up to George Osborne’s plans for a further £30billion of cuts it is clear that things are only going to get worse,” he claimed.
“That’s exactly why we need to take a new, more progressive approach which puts working people first.
“That’s why we are proposing a modest 0.5% increase in public spending, increased investment in infrastructure projects and support for small and medium sized enterprises to boost the economy and create more jobs.”
Mr Swinney said the SNP would do everything it could to ensure that work always pays.
“Hard working people have been paying the price for Westminster’s failures for too long,” he added.
“A strong team of SNP MPs will ensure we take a new, fairer, more progressive direction.”
