Twitter reacts to Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour leadership win

On one of the most momentous days in British politics for a generation, social media went into overdrive reacting to the Corbyn coronation.

And if Twitter is to be believed, September 12 will from now until eternity be known as #CorbynDay. The question on the lips of the twitterati was, “where were you when Jezza won it?”

The left-wing firebrand kicked it off with his message to the Labour Party and the British public…

Beaten leadership candidates Yvette Cooper, Liz Kendall and Andy Burnham all sent their congratulations to Jez before attention quickly turned to the football…

But Scouser Andy need not have worried as his boys in blue triumphed over Chelsea in a result that, unlike #labourleadership, shocked the nation. TV personality and fellow football man Richard Osman was somewhat more optimistic…

A wave of pro-Corbyn tweets followed from delighted radicals and satarists alike…

With West Bromwich East MP Tom Watson sealing a convincing win in the contest for deputy, one gag in particular was doing the rounds…

All the excitement led to confusion from some camps…

But it’s safe to say not everyone was pleased with the outcome of this election…

In an act of particular ‘toys out the pram’, one Labour MP chose Jeremy’s acceptance speech as the moment to resign…

And across the pond, another controversial political candidate chasing the dream of leading his party apparently misunderstood the sea change in Britain today…

Nevermind, Dame Helen looks ready to lead the fight back…

And it looks like she won’t have much difficulty convincing the usually reserved Mr Morgan to join the cause…
