Lesley Brennan is due to pledge allegiance to the Queen as she is sworn in as the Scottish Parliament representative for the North East. She replaces Richard Baker, who surprised his colleagues when he quit just weeks before the dissolution of parliament for the May election. He is taking up a post at Age Scotland. Ms Brennan, who is on the left of the party, once stated that electing Kezia Dugdale to deputy leader of the party was a “sure-fire path to defeat”. But she said this week that, with Ms Dugdale as leader, the party is “best placed to regain the trust of the people of Scotland”.
