MP for Gordon, Alex Salmond, has a few words to say about the rise of a new wave of craters of Scotland’s national drink.
The former First Minister welcomes the news that more and more of the micro industries are popping up across the home of whisky…
In his own words,
“One of the more encouraging developments in the great story of our national drink is the spread of craft distilleries.
“They are reclaiming our whisky from the big battalions of corporate power and adding a touch of very special variety to the making of the cratur.
“Indeed, there is now a Scottish craft distillers organisation to match the craft beer organisations.
“Many of their members are now offering distinctive gins to help with cash flow as they await the maturation of their first distillations from their new stills.
“As first minister the best helicopter pilot I ever came across was John McKenzie, who farms near Dingwall and owns the restored GlenWyvis distillery.
“Indeed Johnny, when flying me over Scotland, used to point out the new distilleries on the way.
“Having already developed a fine gin, McKenzie is now well on course to creating Scotland’s first ever carbon neutral distillery with a crowd funding project underway.
“Legend has it that original GlenWyvis was Robert Burns’s favourite Highland tipple and there is little doubt that Burns would have approved of local ownership of our whisky.
“After all, a dram’s a dram for a that!”
