A meeting between north-east Conservatives and a Treasury minister on RBS bank closures was scuppered by the cabinet reshuffle.
The Press and Journal’s Save Our Banks campaign is backing communities uniting to stop more than 60 RBS bank closures in Scotland and has won cross-party support.
North-east Conservative MPs were set to meet economic secretary to the Treasury Stephen Barclay to lobby him to take action.
But Mr Barclay was called in to Downing Street and given the new post of health minister by Theresa May yesterday afternoon, so the meeting was cancelled.
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid said they would reschedule as soon as possible.
“I and my Scottish Conservative colleagues have been inundated with the concerns of north-east constituents who are worried about the closures of local bank branches,” he said.
“Mr Barclay has today secured a new ministerial role, which I congratulate him on, but that means we’ll have to rearrange the discussion with his successor.
“The repeated closure of local branches is a big issue facing north-east communities and the Scottish Conservatives are examining it at the heart of government.
“We aim to engage with Mr Barclay’s replacement as soon as possible.”
