Theresa May showered praise on north-east MP Andrew Bowie who completed the London Marathon faster than any other parliamentarian on Sunday.
The prime minister joked that she “wasn’t chasing” the West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP, who serves as her parliamentary private secretary, around the course.
Mr Bowie was the first MP to cross the line in a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 32 seconds.
Mrs May, speaking at prime minister’s questions, said: “May I congratulate everyone who took part in the London Marathon on Sunday including members of this House, parliamentary staff and lobby journalists.
“I would particularly like to congratulate my parliamentary private secretary, Andrew Bowie, who completed the marathon with the fastest time of any member of parliament.
“And just to for those who are suggesting otherwise, no I wasn’t chasing him at the time.”
