Boris Johnson and Donald Trump discussed trade and Brexit during a telephone conversation yesterday as the president’s top security adviser arrived in the UK for talks.
The call is the third time the leaders have spoken since Mr Johnson won the Tory leadership race last month.
A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “They discussed global economic issues and trade, and the prime minister updated the president on Brexit.”
The call came as President Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton arrived in London for talks on Iran, Huwaei and Brexit.
Mr Bolton, who is in the UK for two days, held discussions with Cabinet Secretary Mark Sedwill, Mr Johnson’s senior adviser Edward Lister, Chancellor Sajid Javid and Tory MP Bernard Jenkin yesterday.
Today, Mr Bolton is expected to meet Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, International Trade Secretary Liz Truss, Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay and Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove.
Mr Bolton is the highest ranking US official to visit the UK since Mr Johnson became prime minister.
