An islands MP has pledged to put renewed pressure on government ministers to tackle energy surcharges.
Angus MacNeil, the SNP member for the Western Isles, previously called on Westminster to address the soaring power costs in his constituency.
He said last night he would write to Energy Minister Matt Hancock again to ask him to investigate the issue.
“It is quite clear that on both counts, generation and consumption, the Westminster model of successive governments, Labour and Tory have failed the islands,” he said.
“However, Westminster could ameliorate this to an extent by designating island renewables for island consumption.
“The UK government must take action to ease the burden on consumers.”
