SNP MP Carol Monaghan has called on outgoing prime minister David Cameron to join her party ahead of his rumoured move to the north-east.
The Press and Journal revealed last month how Mr Cameron and his wife Samantha had been rumoured to be eyeing a move to a multi-million pound Aberdeenshire estate.
But today, as he gave his final prime minister’s questions, the MP for Glasgow North West challenged the prime minister on his record, saying he had done more for Scottish independence than many on the SNP benches and should now consider joining the party ahead of any potential move to Scotland.
The property in question, the £20million Tillypronie estate, near Tarland, is currently owned by aristocratic barrister Philip Astor, a member of the Anglo-American Astor family, with ties to the Prime Minister’s wife.
Mrs Cameron is reported to be particularly keen on the property due to her family connections to the Astor clan through her mother’s second marriage.
But Mr Steel has insisted that the property is “absolutely not” for sale.
Mr Cameron, in reply, said that Lord Smith himself said the vow to create a powerhouse parliament was kept. He said has created a powerhouse parliament but he has not seen the SNP use those powers.
The question was the penultimate question of the session, with the final honours given to former cabinet minister Ken Clarke.
