Caley Thistle defender Josh Meekings says talks over his future will not distract him from his prime target of a sustained run in the Inverness side this season.
Inverness manager Richie Foran this week revealed Meekings, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been offered a new two-year deal to remain at Caledonian Stadium, with further talks planned this week.
Meekings has recently returned to the Caley Jags starting line-up after recovering from a recurrence of a knee injury, which sidelined him for the early part of the campaign.
Having been restricted to just 26 appearances last term, Meekings says avoiding further injury problems and keeping his place in the team is his main focus.
The Englishman said: “I’ll approach it the same as I do any other season. I want to get as many games under my belt as I can.
“I need to be playing to do that. I want to try and stay injury-free and if I can do that we’ll see where it goes.
“I’m hoping I can get a run of games together and I’ll be able to show what I can do on the pitch. That will be my main priority.”
Inverness are bottom of the Premiership despite registering their first league win of the season in their last outing, with Meekings scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory against St Johnstone last month.
Meekings is determined to help his side defy the odds again this season, with a trip to Aberdeen next up for the Highlanders on Saturday.
The 24-year-old added: “I don’t know if we need fuel – that is one thing with us. People are talking on the outside but they’ve always done that.
“For many years, since I’ve been here, there have been people on the outside talking about us being in a relegation battle from the beginning of the season.
“We have overachieved, people could say. We’ve done very well. That’s not where we want it to end though, we want to carry it on. It doesn’t stop there, we want to keep going and make sure we can do one better every season.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t make the top -six last year, but as a group I’m sure we’ll look into that.
“First and foremost we just need to get ourselves back into a good position and crack on with the league.”
