Ross County: Manager sets players challenge to prove what they can do

Jim McIntyre is attempting to lead Ross County to the top-six.

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has challenged his players to show they are capable of grinding out results.

The Staggies return from last weekend’s international break tomorrow when they host Motherwell, with the Highlanders sitting fourth in the Premiership with six points from their opening four games.

County were beaten 1-0 by Hamilton in their last outing and, although McIntyre had no complaints about the outcome, he wants his side to start gaining points they do not deserve as he targets a run of consistency.

McIntyre said: “We’re looking for consistency from pre-season onwards but stringing five or six results together in this league is really difficult because the teams are so evenly matched.

“That’s the challenge we face, though, and the challenge we’ve tried to lay down to the players is we’ve got to be that bit more consistent. When we’re not playing well, we need to make sure we take a point away from games.

“We’re never going to have it our own way, we’ve got to do both sides well to have a chance of winning.”

McIntyre is optimistic his players will show a bright response when the Steelmen make the trip to Victoria Park this weekend, as they aim to get the Accies loss out of their system.

He added: “The boys have come back in good spirits and they’re looking fresh and ready to go.

“Going into an international break with a defeat is the worst scenario, it makes it a longer break than it would have been if we’d gone in on the back of a victory.

“It’s how we respond and it’s something we’ve shown we can do well. In the last couple of years we’ve always managed to bounce back.

“We might not always win but we’ve shown that reaction and performance. From that side of things I’m confident the boys will show a good reaction.”
