Ross County forward Craig Curran claims his teammates are not feeling the pressure despite the danger of a relegation struggle.
County take on Inverness in a crucial Highland derby at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday, and a win for bottom club Caley Jags would move them to within a point of Jim McIntyre’s ninth-placed side.
County players must deal with pressure, regardless of their Premiership position, and despite the Staggies’ top-six hopes taking a huge dent in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Kilmarnock, Curran remains determined to climb the table and said: “There is pressure, there are a number of teams in and around the relegation area.
“There is always pressure in football, whether it is to stay up, get into the top six, or to win the league, but that won’t be playing on our minds. Every team will be looking upwards, regardless of where they are in the table and we are the same. We always want to better ourselves, our results and our position no matter whether we’re first, middle or last in the table.”
Curran accepts his side has performed below expectations, but the 27-year-old is confident it is not too late for the Staggies to save their season.
He added: “Everyone knows how good a squad we’ve got, we’ve got some really talented players. We shouldn’t be in the position we are, but we have to accept it and change it quickly because we are underachieving.
“We all know that but we are working really hard to put it right.
“The players are hurting, but if we put three points on the table on Saturday we will look to kick on again.
“We’ve got to put a run together, starting on Saturday and every game is huge now, regardless of whether we are playing Inverness, Celtic, Hamilton.”
