Caley Thistle midfielder Greg Tansey insists he will not allow his summer move to Aberdeen to distract him when he lines up against his future club at Pittodrie tonight.
Tansey last week signed a pre-contract with the Dons and will join Derek McInnes’ side on a three-year contract when his Inverness deal expires in the summer.
As fate would have it, Dons supporters will get a glimpse of their latest capture when Caley Jags face the Reds tonight but Englishman Tansey is only focused on ensuring Caley Thistle remain in the Premiership, with Richie Foran’s men two points adrift at the bottom with only eight games left.
Tansey said: “I’ve played in big games, I’ve played in games with an atmosphere, so it doesn’t bother me.
“It’s just a game of football – it’s just a pitch with 11 players we’re playing against.
“I’m not even thinking about going to Aberdeen next season. My prime objective is this, for Inverness.
“I’ve been here three-and-a-half years now and I’ve got attached to the club. I don’t want to leave them on a bad note.
“It’s been a difficult couple of months but it was a decision I came to and I’ll stand by that decision.
“It’s a great set-up at Aberdeen, they’ve got great staff there. I know a few of the players and they speak very highly of it.
“That’s what sold me on it. It’s something I am looking forward to but something I’ll think about at the time, when the season finishes.
“I’m not really thinking about joining up with Aberdeen. There’s too much football to be played.
“The lads deserve me to be giving 100% and that’s what I’ll continue to do. Over the past couple of months I’ve shown that and I’ll continue to do that, with goals and performances.
“The next eight games are cup finals for us and I think it’s going to go right down to the wire.”
Tansey expects his move to divide opinion among the Inverness support but the 28-year-old will accept the flak from those taking issue with the decision.
He added: “It’s going to be a mixed bag. I don’t mind that – they pay their money to come and watch and they deserve their opinion.
“It’s not a problem to me. I’ll take the rough with the smooth, and there’s already people who have been very complimentary and supportive, but there are others who take it a different way, and I don’t mind.”
