Ross County twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against champions Celtic in a match that exploded into late controversy.

The Hoops had led at half-time through Kieran Tierney’s excellent strike, however Michael Gardyne levelled for the hosts six minutes into the second-half.

Patrick Roberts looked to have secured all three points for the Hoops on 78 minutes however County equalised again thanks to a controversial penalty one minute from time, when Alex Schalk went down under no contact from Erik Sviatchenko, allowing Liam Boyce to net from the spot.

Celtic skipper Scott Brown was dismissed in the dying seconds for a horrendous tackle on Boyce, with the point moving County three points clear of the relegation play-off position.

County made two changes from the side that drew 1-1against Hamilton Accies the previous weekend, with Jim O’Brien and youngster Reghan Tumilty brought in to replace Craig Curran and the suspended Martin Woods.

Celtic dominated possession in the early stages, with Tierney seeing his long-range drive well gathered by Scott Fox on 17 minutes, while James Forrest saw his close-range effort cleared off the line by Kenny van der Weg before the midfielder had another cut-back hacked away by Andrew Davies.

Celtic took a deserved lead on 34 minutes in outstanding fashion, when Tierney collected the ball 20 yards out before rifling low into Fox’s bottom left corner.

County showed a strong response to the setback however, and following a bright start to the second-half they equalised on 51 minutes. Ryan Dow swung the ball in from the left, with Gardyne rising to head the ball home off the underside of the crossbar.

Celtic’s late pressure came, with substitute Leigh Griffiths forcing Fox to save at the second attempt with a strike from long-range, however the visitors were not to be denied on 78 minutes when Roberts cut inside from the right channel before slipping the ball under the body of Fox and into the net.

Brendan Rodgers’ men could have added a third goal on 86 minutes when Stuart Armstrong saw his free-kick crash off the top of the crossbar.

County were given the chance to restore parity on 89 minutes by referee Don Robertson however, when Schalk went to ground under seemingly no contact from Sviatchenko, with Boyce making no mistake from the spot, before Brown was sent off in the dying seconds for a wild challenge on the Northern Irishman.
