Caley Thistle’s Championship home match against Falkirk is already in doubt due to poor weather and a decision to postpone the game could be made this afternoon.
The north of Scotland has felt the effects of Storm Caroline in recent days, while snow is also forecast throughout today and tomorrow.
Inverness are keen to make an early call to prevent Falkirk having to travel unnecessarily and Robertson says the Caledonian Stadium pitch will be assessed this afternoon.
Robertson said: “We are told what the weather is going to be but we can’t see into the future. We have to wait to see if that weather transpires.
“There have been many times we’ve been told the weather has been horrendous but it’s been OK, while there are other times we’ve been told it’s going to be OK and it’s been horrendous.
“What we have to do is batten down the hatches and see what it’s like and we will make a decision.
“If there appears to be a problem with it we will let Falkirk and the authorities know as early as we can so it saves anyone travelling know, so they don’t have to travel.
“We can’t just guess what’s going to happen but we will make a decision at 3pm – 24 hours before the match.
“If the pitch is playable it will go ahead and if it’s not it will be cancelled.”
The Caledonian Stadium surface has suffered following heavy rainfall in recent weeks, with a recent midweek fixture against Brechin City being postponed on November 21 due to a waterlogged pitch.
That game was rescheduled for seven days later, with Inverness running out 4-0 winners just three days after they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren in horrendous conditions.
Robertson feels the double header has taken its toll, adding: “We trained this week and the boys are looking sharp, they’re looking lively and they want this match to go ahead on Saturday.
“Conditions will dictate that at the moment because there’s still a couple of wet patches on it from the conditions at the St Mirren game.
“It’s not really recovered if I’m being honest. We had St Mirren and then Brechin City right after that.
“It’s still very wet and muddy in those areas and if the weather is what it says it’s going to be, we will obviously have to take a look at that on Friday afternoon.”
