Staggies must close games out, says Lindsay

Ross County midfielder Jamie Lindsay says the Staggies must find an ugly way of winning games after squandering a two-goal lead against Kilmarnock on Tuesday.

The Staggies had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Killie at Victoria Park after failing to see out their half-time lead, with attacker Kris Boyd netting a deflected equaliser three minutes from the end.

It was the second time in four days the Staggies relinquished a winning position, having gone down 2-1 against Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday despite taking an early lead.

The collapse against Killie left Lindsay particularly deflated however and the on-loan Celtic player says the Staggies must ensure they hold out for victories at all costs.

Lindsay said: “It feels like a defeat. It was a game of two halves – we controlled the first-half and in the second-half they controlled it. We couldn’t get out. It’s hard to take but we need to pick ourselves up for Saturday.

“It happened a couple of weeks ago against Motherwell where we let them back in the game but still won 3-2.

“We need to come out as if it’s 0-0 and play from there. We didn’t get going in the second-half so they got the goal and it was backs against the wall.

“Even if it isn’t going well, we need to stay together as a team and keep the lead. It doesn’t matter how we win, so long as we get the three points. It feels horrible – it feels like we’ve been beat.”

The Staggies have won just one of their last eight matches with their last triumph coming at home to Motherwell on November 4.

Despite Tuesday’s setback, the result was enough to move Owen Coyle’s men above Dundee into 10th place in the Premiership, and Lindsay hopes a quick return to winning ways can help County climb further up the table, with a trip to Hamilton Accies next up on Saturday.

The 22-year-old added: “Our performances have not been too bad. We were unlucky against Rangers not to take a point – it’s a hard place to go but we didn’t see the game out. But it’s the same thing that keeps happening. A good performance in the first half then didn’t turn up in the second.

“All the games coming up are teams round about us and it would have been nice to take three points on Tuesday.

“Even at the weekend with the performance we didn’t see it out. We need to get back in training, get our heads right then go again on Saturday.”
