Caley Thistle have received another defensive boost after securing left back Carl Tremarco on a new two-year contract until 2020.
Englishman Tremarco had originally been tied down until the end of this season, although Tremarco had the option of adding an extra year if he played 15 league games this season.
Tremarco has now committed his future to Inverness for the next two-and-a-half years however, joining fellow defender Coll Donaldson who also signed an extension earlier this week.
Since joining from Macclesfield Town in 2013 Tremarco has gone on to make 123 appearances for Caley Jags, and was part of the club’s Scottish Cup winning side in 2015.
After recovering from a four-month cruciate ligament injury absence in September, Tremarco has played his part in a Caley Jags backline that has kept nine clean sheets from its last 10 matches.
Although right back David Raven will leave the club next month, Caley Thistle assistant manager Brian Rice is pleased with the continuity shown by the new deals for Tremarco and Donaldson.
Rice said: “Carl’s extension is fantastic news for the club. He loves the club, he loves the area so it’s good news for everyone. He’s the sort of person we want about our club – the way he trains, the way he conducts himself.
“People like that are committed. He’s got his contract extension, he’s happy to come in and help with the kids and do his coaching badges. It works for everyone.
“When he puts that strip on, we know what we’re going to get. We see his commitment to the club every Saturday.
“He came back in with Coll Donaldson and we changed the formation a wee bit, but certainly Carl gives us more defensive cover than some of the other lads we’ve got.
“It’s very important to keep things going when you’re winning and not disrupt it as much possible. We’ve had a couple of suspensions but in the main we’ve been back to the shape and personnel we’ve used on this good run.”
Inverness manager John Robertson has already stated he is keen to bolster his squad in January and Rice says the process of identifying new additions is already well underway.
Rice added: “The postponement last week gave me chance to go away and look at players we’re targeting in the window. Can we do better than we’ve got, can we freshen it up a wee bit? The manager will make the decision on what he wants to do.
“I think there have been discussions between the manager and the board and they’re on the same page. We’re no different to any other club. Players may have to leave the club for others to come in, but that’s the same at any club.”
