Caley Thistle manager John Robertson says his players must be prepared to adapt to testing conditions over the winter months.
Inverness take on Morton today, with the opportunity to move level with Jim Duffy’s sixth-placed side with a victory in Greenock.
Robertson expects a heavy surface at Cappielow, and has called on his side to tough out results if the elements conspire against them.
Robertson said: “What I’m driving to the players at the moment is it’s about winning football matches.
“Yes, we want to play with a certain style and panache. Pitches are getting a bit heavier so it’s difficult.
“I thought some of our passing displays and movement against Dumbarton on Saturday was tremendous, given the conditions on the day and the condition of the pitch.
“There will be some matches where we can do that and some pitches where we can’t. We believe Cappielow is very heavy.
“We want the players to try and pass the ball as much as they can but sometimes we have to go direct and play slightly differently, which we did against Dumbarton by bringing George Oakley on.
“That’s why we have a squad with different styles of play, because sometimes we can move it quickly and get through teams. Other times we might need to be more direct and use more brute force.”
Robertson hopes to have attacker Felitciano Zschusschen (knee) and goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams (calf) back in contention in the coming weeks, with the pair about to start full training, although today’s game comes too soon for both.
Caley Jags’ home fixture against Falkirk has been rearranged for Tuesday, January 9 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
