Caley Thistle moved up to sixth in the Championship courtesy of a commanding 3-1 victory against Queen of the South at Caledonian Stadium.
Inverness were thoroughly deserving of their victory as they produced another confident showing, triumphing thanks to goals from Iain Vigurs, Joe Chalmers and Aaron Doran, with Owen Bell netting a late consolation for the visitors.
John Robertson made two changes from the side that defeated Falkirk 4-1 on Tuesday, with Aaron Doran and Riccardo Calder in for Jake Mulraney and the injured Carl Tremarco.
Inverness made a lightning start to the match, with skipper Gary Warren seeing a header tipped on to the bar and over by goalkeeper Jack Leighfield.
It only took Caley Jags three minutes to take the lead however, from the resulting corner. Liam Polworth’s corner was nodded across goal by Brad McKay, sitting up for Vigurs to steer a header home from eight yards.
Inverness continued to apply pressure, with McKay’s cross picking out Connor Bell who flashed a near-post effort wide, before Doran saw his drilled cross palmed away by Leighfield.
Queens had a great chance to level on 23 minutes when Shaun Rooney’s knock-down found the unmarked Stephen Dobbie, however he steered wide from just five yards.
Inverness were in confident mood however, and were denied a second when Doran picked out Polworth, but his shot was turned wide by Leighfield.
Caley Jags did find a second goal on 29 minutes however, when another Polworth corner was cleared only as far as Chalmers, whose low 20-yard shot trickled past Leighfield and into the bottom corner for his first goal for the club.
Queens started the second-half brightly in their search for a way back into the match, with Dobbie seeing a shot well held by Mark Ridgers after exchanging passes with Connor Murray.
Caley Thistle wrapped up the points on 59 minutes, with Polworth squaring the ball for Doran to tuck home from 16 yards, with goalkeeper Leighfield getting a strong hand on the ball but unable to keep it out.
Queens netted late on when substitute Bell nodded home Scott Mercer’s delivery, but it was too little, too late for Gary Naysmith’s men.
