Aberdeen shooter Neil Stirton picked up his fourth Commonwealth Games medal with silver in the men’s 50m rifle prone on Tuesday morning.
Stirton had picked up a medal of each colour in his three previous Games and added a second silver yesterday, missing out on gold by 1.1 points to a record-breaking effort from Wales’ David Phelps.
After qualifying fourth in the morning session, narrowly ahead of Scotland team-mate Leonard Thomson, Stirton did his best to keep pace with Phelps and was the last man going toe-to-toe with the Welshman in the final elimination, finishing with a score of 247.7
The 37-year-old will go for his second medal of the Games when the 50m rifle 3 positions starts on Saturday.
Stirton won his first Commonwealth medal in Melbourne 12 years ago with a silver in the 50m prone pairs, the event he subsequently won four years later in Delhi. His bronze medal also came in India, finishing third in the 50m 3 positions pairs.
