Substitute Jake Mulraney’s late winner secured a 1-0 victory for Caley Thistle against Falkirk at Caledonian Stadium.
Mulraney’s strike with 10 minutes remaining was enough to settle a poor Championship encounter, in wet and windy conditions.
The result means Caley Jags remain eight points adrift of the play-off places, albeit results elsewhere did not go their way as Dundee United defeated leaders St Mirren and Morton secured a late win over Dumbarton.
Caley Jags manager John Robertson named an unchanged side from the team that defeated Queen of the South 2-0 on Saturday.
Chances were limited at both ends in the first half, with Inverness enjoying a decent early flurry which saw Nathan Austin blaze wide of target following a neat exchange with George Oakley and Liam Polworth on 10 minutes.
The hosts continued to threaten, with Brad Mckay clipping the crossbar with a header following a Polworth header, before Austin’s follow-up was scrambled clear by the visitors’ defence.
Falkirk showed some neat play in their approach to the final third but were unable to create many chances, with Reghan Tumilty’s cross picking out Tom Robson, who was unable to turn the ball home from close range.
Just as it looked as if the second half would fizzle out, Mulraney’s fine strike from 16 yards nestled in the bottom corner, with Inverness now seven matches unbeaten.
