IRN-BRU Cup holders Caley Thistle will begin their defence of the trophy with a home tie against fellow Championship side Dunfermline in August.
The first round draw was made at People’s Palace in Glasgow on Tuesday, with John Robertson’s men handed a difficult start to the competition, which they won last season courtesy of a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at McDiarmid Park in March.
Ross County were drawn away to Hearts colts, while Peterhead will host Brechin City and Elgin City are at home to Arbroath. Aberdeen colts are away to League 1 side Raith Rovers.
An all-Highland League tie awaits, with the winner of a preliminary round tie between Inverurie Locos and Fraserburgh at home to Formartine United, while champions Cove Rangers are at home to Montrose.
The ties will take place on the weekend of August 15/16.
