Lawrence Shankland has been rewarded for his storming start to the season with a Scotland call-up.
The Dundee United striker has scored 13 goals in seven Scottish Championship games.
Shankland joined Aberdeen from Queen’s Park in 2013 but was released at the end of the 2016-17 season.
After a prolific spell at Ayr United, Shankland moved to Tannadice in the summer.
Steve Clarke feels Shankland has deserved his chance.
“Obviously he’s a goalscorer, he’s in form,” the Scotland boss said. “I know Lawrence quite well from my time here in Scotland having watched him a few times, and it’s not an area that we are overburdened with top strikers.
“Lawrence is in form and deserves his chance. The best way to look at him and gauge what level he is at is to bring him into the squad. It’s an opportunity to have him in the group, see how he works in the squad and hopefully he can score a few goals for us.”
Sheffield United’s John Fleck is also set to be in Clarke’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and San Marino.
Scotland travel to Moscow to face Russia in on October 10 before hosting San Marino three days later.
The national team are sitting fifth in Group 1 with two wins and four losses.
Aberdeen’s Mikey Devlin has been included in the squad for the double-header.
