Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has yet to decide if on-loan Aberdeen forward David Goodwillie has a future at Victoria Park beyond the summer.
Goodwillie joined the Staggies in January, but has made just eight appearances and scored his first goal for the club in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Hearts at Tynecastle.
The former Scotland international will not be kept on by the Dons at the end of the season, but McIntyre would not be drawn on whether he will offer Goodwillie a permanent contract. He said: “There has been no decision. His opportunities have been limited because of how well the other forwards have been doing. He has trained very hard and kept his head down and did exceptionally well to get the goal on Saturday.
“All players thrive on confidence and goalscorers thrive on goals. It was a fantastic delivery from Martin Woods, David was at the near post but he spun to get between the defenders for a textbook header. It was great to see him getting off the mark because he has had to be patient. It has been a frustrating time for him, but for him to come on and make an impact was great.”
One player who has committed his future to the Staggies is goalkeeper Scott Fox, who last weekend agreed a 12-month extension to his contract which keeps him at Dingwall until 2018.
Fox has suffered setbacks in his first season in the Highlands, having been sidelined by ankle and knee injuries, but McIntyre has been pleased with the 28-year-old’s impact since arriving from Partick Thistle last summer.
McIntyre added: “He’s done fantastically well. He said he was happy to stay with us and extend his deal, and we were up for that, so I’m delighted.
“He’s been unlucky this year as he’s had two bad injuries that have kept him out, but when he’s played he’s made point and match-winning saves.
“That’s the type of goalkeeper we need, although he’s had very good competition in Gary Woods as well, who was ill on Saturday.
“They’ve been pushing each other along, and Gary played a major part in the League Cup final.
“It’s good to have two goalkeepers challenging. I don’t like a number one and a number two, I think it’s important we’ve got that competition.”
