The top seed and the host were among the casualties in the second round of the Paul Lawrie Match Play at Archerfield Links.
Number one seed Chris Wood made a surprise early exit against Daniel Brooks, while Lawrie lost at the 19th in a tense tussle with Aussie Richard Green.
Wood, who was looking for a good week to cement his place in the European Ryder Cup team, was six down after nine holes but halved Brooks’ lead by winning the 11th, 12th and 14th holes.
The top seed then won the 16th before almost holing from a bunker on the 17th to take the match to the final hole.
Lawrie was two up but lost the 16th and 18th holes before Green made a birdie on the first extra hole to win the match.
Aberdeen’s Richie Ramsay closed out his second round clash with Roope Kakko in fine style with an eagle three at the last to win by two holes.
There was also home success in the opening match of the second round with Marc Warren producing another positive display with a 3&2 victory against Swede Magnus Carlsson.
Ryder Cup hopeful Matt Fitzpatrick, who defeated Thomas Bjorn in his opening match, put in another ruthless performance as he cruised to a 6&5 success over fellow Englishman Matt Ford.
