Stenhousemuir have received backing in their bid to buy two new players from Monty Python star Michael Palin.
The club has launched a fundraising appeal aimed at raising £10,000 in a bid to help manager Brown Ferguson sign two players and Palin, 73, has made a donation to the club via supporter Stephen Fraser’s Just Giving page along with the message ‘Best of luck for this worthwhile cause.’
Fraser said: “I was just looking through the names of the people who had donated and this jumped out. I said, ‘Blimey, there’s Michael Palin.’
“I knew he was a bit of a Stenhousemuir fan because I’d seen him at a game a few years ago. He came to the watch the match and bought a Stenhousemuir shirt. He seems to have a soft spot for the club.”
Stenny are second bottom of League 1, with one point from their opening four matches.
Club spokesman Iain McMenemy said: “He first came to watch a game about 10 years ago. He seems to like to keep an eye on how we’re doing. No-one expected this though.”
