Fans headed out early to watch their beloved Dons take on newly promoted Rangers at Pittodrie.
Around 20,000 fans were at the match, the first Premiership meeting between the sides since 2012.
After a rather uneventful first half, the second 90-minutes kicked off with Jonny Hayes scoring a goal in the opening minute.
But the Ibrox side were gifted a way back into the match 11 minutes from time when Hayes was caught on the wrong side of Lee Wallace and dragged the Rangers captain to the ground.
With the game looking destined for a draw, Maddison produced a sublime free kick in the final minute to win the match for the Dons.
