Caley Thistle forward Lonsana Doumbouya believes he is increasingly finding his feet in Scottish football after netting his first Inverness goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Dundee.
Doumbouya’s headed opener on eight minutes put Caley Jags on course for a much-deserved victory, with Greg Tansey’s penalty and Liam Polworth’s second-half goal seeing off a poor Dark Blues outfit who netted a late consolation from Nicky Low’s free kick.
The Frenchman joined the Highlanders last month after several years playing in Belgium, most recently for Second Division side Cercle Brugge.
The attacker, who turns 26 today, is playing top-flight football for the first time and he feels he is steadily adapting after netting on his second start for Richie Foran’s men.
Doumbouya said: “I’m very happy because it’s my first goal. Brad McKay put in a good ball, and I got my timing perfect to score.
“It has been difficult, but after four games I feel my adaptation has been all right. It has been getting better with each game, although the level is still not quite perfect.
“In Belgian football, when a player gets a little touch it’s always a foul, but here it’s never. Play always goes on.
“It’s a big difference from the lower league football I’ve played before. In the Premiership teams it’s very physical but teams play football as well, while in the lower divisions it’s just physical.
“I enjoy it though. It’s a very good team. I’m enjoying playing with the team and living in Inverness, so I’m very happy.”
Caley Jags’ victory stretched their unbeaten run to four matches after losing their opening three games of the Premiership season, and following impressive draws against Aberdeen and Celtic, Doumbouya was pleased to help his side return to winning ways.
He added: “It was an important game for the team and I’m very happy the team has moved up in the table.
“The game against Celtic was a very good physical match. It was against Dundee a little bit, but it was important to win no matter how we did it.”
