Ross County defender Andrew Davies was always confident of causing Rangers problems despite his side’s recent slump.
The Staggies recovered from losing an early goal to Clint Hill to earn a deserved point through Davies’ header in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Victoria Park.
The result extended County’s run without a victory to 10 games and Jim McIntyre’s men are a point adrift of Dundee at the foot of the Premiership table.
County spurned a flurry of late chances to take all three points and Englishman Davies felt weaknesses in the Rangers’ defence meant they were there for the taking.
He said: “We had chances to win. They are a good team and we had to be careful with them, but when we were attacking in the first half we had them wide open.
“We knew that before the game. I felt we could get at them, I really did. They have got some really good attacking players and we had to be really careful. But at the back I think that’s where their weakest point is.
“If our final ball or final shot had been just that little bit better we could have won the game 2-1 or 3-1. It was a good performance.
“I am proud of them. It would have been very easy to fold. Rangers are a very good team and we haven’t been doing very well over the last four or five games. To a man, everyone was excellent.”
Davies, who stood in as captain in place of the injured Paul Quinn, added: “We’ve got to keep the level of performance we’ve showed against Celtic and Rangers in recent weeks in all our matches.
“If we play like that every week we’ll get results and score goals. That’s our standard, our benchmark, and that’s what we’ve got to build on.
“We’ve played Hearts, Aberdeen, Celtic and Rangers twice in the last seven weeks or so. These are quality teams, and other teams around us now have to play them.
“We’ve got to make sure, when we play the teams around us, we win those games. I think the table will change very quickly.”
