Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox’s foot injury is not as bad as first feared but he remains a doubt for Saturday’s Premiership game against Hamilton Accies.
Fox suffered the injury in the early stages of County’s 4-2 win at St Johnstone on Saturday after a challenge by Saints defender Steven Anderson, which eventually forced him to be replaced by substitute goalkeeper Aaron McCarey at half-time.
McIntyre confirmed Fox has not broken his foot but says he is still to be assessed before this weekend’s match at Victoria Park, with Irishman McCarey on stand-by to deputise.
McIntyre said: “Scott has got a badly bruised foot and we need to monitor it. It’ll be towards the end of the week before we know if he can make the game. Fortunately nothing is broken.
“We’ve got two goalkeepers to push each other – Aaron was ready to play and if Scott can’t make it for the weekend, we’ve got no issues with Aaron. He’s a good goalkeeper in his own right.”
McIntyre revealed midfielder Chris Burke, who was instrumental in Saturday’s victory with two assists, had been an injury doubt before the game, which ended a 10-match winless sequence and catapulted the Staggies from the bottom of the table to eighth.
McIntyre praised the impact of Burke since joining on a free transfer from English Championship side Nottingham Forest in September and he believes the best is yet to come from the former Scotland international.
McIntyre added: “He had a kidney complaint on Saturday and wasn’t feeling 100%, so that makes it more pleasing and the character he showed going into that game.
“With Chris and Ryan Dow we’ve been trying to get them up to speed to create competition for places. Chris puts people on the back foot and gets balls into the box – he’s got three assists and a goal to his name in a short period of time, which is an excellent return so far. I still believe there’s more to come from him.
“It was great to get the win and get the monkey off our backs, of the 10 games. We know within that period there’s been fine margins that have cost us a couple of wins. It’s nice to put it to bed and it’s important everyone remembers it’s just one result.”
