Ross County manager Jim McIntyre is hoping for clarity on the viral infection which kept midfielder Chris Burke out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies.
Burke was sidelined from training for the majority of last week through the illness and did not recover in time to play his part in the Victoria Park encounter.
The former Scotland international had a kidney complaint ahead of the Staggies’ trip to St Johnstone the previous weekend before going on to provide two assists in County’s 4-2 win at McDiarmid Park.
McIntyre says Burke has yet to get to the root of the problem.
He said: “He’s got a viral infection. He was feeling a bit unwell against St Johnstone last week as well but he played.
“He trained on Monday and felt terrible, so he was in and out of hospital last week trying to find out what exactly is wrong and get to the bottom of it.”
McIntyre will also take caution over attacker Craig Curran, who came off at half-time with a hamstring injury.
The Staggies manager was pleased with the impact of substitute Alex Schalk, who had the ball in the net midway through the second-half but was wrongly thwarted by an offside flag.
Schalk spurned other opportunities to secure the victory but McIntyre felt he made a difference in the match and added: “It was not like Alex not to hit the target but the main thing for me is that he was making those types of runs and getting on to those passes.
“He was really disappointed but he came on and made a really strong contribution for us.
“When he did score, he got it wrongly ruled offside.
“Craig felt his hamstring, it really tightened up when he went back out and right away knew there was a problem, so we didn’t want to take any risks with that one.”
