He has a team which is competing for silverware but Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is embarrassed at the lack of training facilities on offer for the Dons players.
McInnes yearns for the day he can have a permanent home for his players to train and believes having a facility in place is crucial for the club.
He said: “The facilities are a huge challenge. The training facility is something which, for me, is embarrassing. Ferrying players all over the city can’t go on much longer and it is important we drive this through as other clubs are moving ahead and we’re not.
“Our competitors and opponents are getting stronger. Rangers and Hearts are strengthening and Hibs could be back next season as well, so we will have more of a challenge as some clubs can pay more than we can pay.
“We’re developing a lot of good players but we need to develop personality and determination as well so they are ready to be in our first team. We need younger players to come through and, while I realise it is harder just now, it is important.
“We’ve come a long way but we still have so much more to do. When I arrived I wanted the supporters to fall in love with the club again.
“I see the drive and intention to commit to the training ground which, for me and my players, is everything. I do feel once we get the training ground everything will become easier and more professional.”
The stadium is equally important to McInnes, who believes having a stadium fit for purpose would do much to increase the club’s standing both domestically and around Europe.
He said: “The European landscape is changing and the top clubs are going to have it all their own way. We may not get there but we don’t want to be left behind. For us to be taken seriously we have to continually be in Europe but also have a modern facility to back up that intention.
“I can assure you the energy is coming from the staff and the players.
“We do need to be bigger, better and more professional than we are. What happens on the pitch is important as without them nothing is believable.
“We need everyone together and I want nothing more than to bring Rangers and Celtic up here to play at a stadium we can be proud of.
“There is no way we should ever think we can’t achieve that.”
