Caley Thistle have opened talks with right back David Raven about securing his future in the Highlands until January 2018.
Englishman Raven signed a one-year extension in the summer, with the option of a second year based on the number of appearances made during this campaign.
The 31-year-old has played in just six league games this season and is on the sidelines with a knee injury which is expected to keep him out until the end of next month.
Inverness manager Richie Foran is keen to offer Raven the security of an extra six months, regardless of how many appearances he makes this term, and opened talks with the defender earlier this week.
Foran said: “We’ll have another chat and hopefully we can get it done.
“David has been a big part of our success over the last few seasons.
“We want to get him back fit and strong and competing for his place. If we can keep David a bit longer that would be great.
“David did really well against Hearts and Rangers before his injury and I saw a spark that maybe wasn’t there at the start of the season.
“I saw a hunger that impressed me over those two games and I think he deserves another six months.
“He’s been unlucky with injuries but no doubt he’ll get himself fit and be competing for his position. He’s been great for us for years.”
Caley Jags were left with a goalkeeper crisis for last Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies, with first-choice Owain Fon Williams suffering back spasms but playing through pain due to a groin injury to Ryan Esson.
Fon Williams, pictured right, will once again get the nod for tomorrow’s trip to Kilmarnock should he come through training today, with 18-year-old Daniel Hoban, who has recovered from a shin injury that kept him out last week, as reserve.
Foran added: “Owain had a jog on Thursday and he’s feeling all right. We will push him on a bit on Friday. Ryan has still got his groin strain so he’s struggling a bit, but we’ve got Dan who can step in as a reserve if Owain cannot make it.
“I’m sure he will be all right. Not fully fit, but he’ll get through it. Even at 70% or 80% he can still do a good job for us. There will be no stopping him getting on. He wants to play and tells me he’s all right so that’s good enough for me.
“If we can get him through December he will get a rest in January. Hopefully that can help him recover.”
