Fort William are through to the semi-finals of the Menzies Distribution North of Scotland Cup after an Iain Maclellan double and leading-scorer Scott Davidson’s 28th goal of the season.
Fort are just one game away from the final but manager Ally Ewen believes that may have been a factor in his side failing to rise to the heights he had been expecting of them against Invergordon.
He said: “We didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped we would, the players were nervous knowing they were up against the North Caledonian League champions in Invergordon, but the early goal settled us.
“We were never under any real pressure and it was a comfortable performance in the end. I wanted more goals, but they didn’t come, hopefully the players were saving themselves for the semi-final at Rothes on Saturday.
“Credit must go to Invergordon manger Gary Campbell and his team though, they gave a good account of themselves and at times made life difficult for us, but we can now look forward to the semi-final at Mackessack Park.”
The home side opened the scoring on the quarter hour mark when Maclellan was on the spot to finish from eight yards and 11 minutes later the same player made it 2-0 with a ferocious 10-yard drive.
Fort were in control and any hope of an Invergordon comeback was extinguished six minutes after the interval when Davidson turned the ball in from close range.
