Elgin City have won the race to sign Ross County striker Greg Morrison on loan until January.
The Black and Whites had faced competition in their pursuit of Morrison, with Clyde, Cowdenbeath and Stranraer all interested in the 20-year-old.
Morrison yesterday agreed to move to Borough Briggs on a temporary basis however, with City manager Gavin Price thrilled to bolster his attacking options with the capture of the forward, who is from Mulben, near Keith.
Price said: “I have been following Greg for two or three seasons and we have tried to get him on loan here before, but we were unsuccessful.
“He’s local, which helps from the training side of things. The pleasing thing is there were a lot of clubs in for him, but he has chosen to come to us which is a good positive start from both sides.
“We’re really pleased to get him, he’s a big strong lad and I’m sure he will do well for us. He will provide us with good competition in the striking area. Chris McLeish has been playing really well, and Shane Sutherland has as well, but this give us another option to help.”
Morrison was scouted for County at the age of 14 by current Staggies co-manager Steven Ferguson, who was the club’s head of youth development at the time.
He initially made the breakthrough into the Staggies first team aged 17 under Jim McIntyre in 2016, but has gone on to make just nine appearances. He spent the first half of last season on loan with Dumbarton in the Championship, where he netted once in 15 appearances.
With Morrison’s first team prospects at Dingwall having been reduced by the recent additions of strikers Declan McManus, Brian Graham and Ross Stewart, Price hopes the move to Elgin can help him kick start his career.
He added: “I think this loan spell is important for his career. He’s got a good attitude, he’s keen to do well and he’s got the attributes to do well.
“Hopefully it’s going to be a good fit for him, he will feel comfortable with us and go and fulfill the potential he has got.”
