Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis insists he and his team-mates are happy to prove their doubters wrong after securing another cup semi-final berth.
The Dons are in mid-table after six games of the season but sealed their place in the last four of the Betfred Cup on Tuesday night, triumphing on penalties against Hibs at Easter Road.
The shootout win means the Dons are in their fourth League Cup semi-final in six years – where they will take on Rangers – and ensures they head to Parkhead on Saturday with a spring in their step to face Celtic.
Lewis acknowledges that the Dons have not pulled up any trees with their start to the campaign but expects them to gather momentum over a long season.
Lewis said: “I wasn’t aware we were under the radar – it hasn’t been a blistering start but Hearts have been fantastic and are rightfully taking the plaudits. It’s a long season with league and cup games, so we’re just pleased to be in a semi-final. I’m sure it was a great game for the neutral but we’re just really pleased to be in the next round.
“I’ve not read any disrespectful comments. People have been focusing on other teams playing really well.
“We’re more than happy to fly under the radar and we haven’t flown out of the traps. You don’t expect people to elaborate on performances that aren’t great. We’re happy for that to happen and whatever people want to say about us, is of no interest. We keep our heads down and get on with our job.
“It hasn’t been a great start. It hasn’t been a poor start, either – when you play so few games early, one result can stand out. It’s a long season and we want to progress in both cups, while being at the top end of the league. That’s the expectation at Aberdeen, from the manager, players and the club.
“When you’re not there early on, people can say things but it’s water off a duck’s back.”
