Aberdeen are reportedly closing in on the signing of former Aston Villa and Man City midfielder Stephen Ireland.
The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving Stoke and according to reports in The Sun, manager Derek McInnes has already spoken to Ireland’s representatives.
He made just five appearances in the Potters’ relegation season last year after suffering a double leg break in training in 2016.
Ireland started his career at Manchester City and spent five years at the Etihad, before joining Villa. He left in January 2014, making a loan spell at Stoke permanent to reunite with his former City boss Mark Hughes.
A brief international career with the Republic of Ireland saw him score four goals in six caps, with his last appearance coming in 2007.
