Elgin City midfielder Rabin Omar believes Borough Briggs is the ideal setting for his former Annan Athletic team mate Scott Roberts to thrive.
City manager Gavin Price earlier this week added Roberts on a deal until the end of the season earlier this week, with the former Rangers and Raith Rovers midfielder in contention to make his debut in today’s League 2 home match against Edinburgh City.
Omar played alongside Roberts prior to his own move from Galabank last summer, and he believes Elgin’s expansive style of play will better suit the 22-year-old.
Omar said: “I knew Scott from my time at Annan and the two of us have always linked up well together.
“We have always been on the same wavelength, so it will be exciting to see what he brings to the table at Elgin.
“Our style of play will suit him more than it did at Annan. He was in and out of the squad and he said himself it didn’t really suit him there.
“I think the way we will play will though, and with us being friends it will help him integrate into the squad.
“The manager is looking to reinforce the attacking options and with Kane Hester coming in as well, he’s made positive signings.”
Elgin go into today’s game on the back of three straight league defeats, and with the visit of the Citizens followed by another home match against Queen’s Park, Omar sees the next two matches as a prime opportunity to address his side’s below-par form at Borough Briggs.
Omar added: “As the manager keeps saying, in the past couple of years the home form has been the main thing about Elgin. Last year Elgin had one of the best home records, but now it’s one of the worst.
“I don’t know what has changed, but it seems to have been a big factor. If we can get that back in the second half of the season, pick up points at home and steal points away from home, I think we are definitely in contention to make a play-off spot.
A run of one win from their last four matches has seen Edinburgh drop to second in the table, however Omar insists has been impressed by how well today’s opponents have performed this term.
He added: “They have been flying high, I don’t think anyone expected them to do what they have done.
“It’s quite clear from whenever we have played them that they have been incredibly well organised. When they’ve got a player like Blair Henderson banging in goals, they have always got a chance.
“It will be a really difficult game, but we are not going into it thinking we are playing against high-fliers near the top of the league, we are going into it thinking we can get points from them. We’re certainly not backing down.”
